Okotoks Neighbourhood Guide

Okotoks is small enough to feel like home and big enough to offer a neighbourhood for every stage of life. TJ has lived here for more than 25 years and raised her family here. This is her local's guide to every corner of town.

The Sheep River and the rail line naturally divide Okotoks into north and south, with the historic downtown in the centre. As a general rule, the oldest neighbourhoods sit closest to the river on both the north and south sides, and they get newer the farther you move away from it. Most neighbourhoods are only five to ten minutes apart, yet each has its own personality. Pick an area below to learn what it is really like to live there.

Okotoks At A Glance

Named the most livable community in Alberta.

Source: The Globe and Mail, Canada's Most Livable Cities, 2026. Okotoks ranked 29th in Canada and first in Alberta.

Add to that the Rocky Mountains on the horizon, with Kananaskis Country within about an hour's drive for hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Summer evenings are made for Okotoks Dawgs baseball at Seaman Stadium, where families from all over the Foothills fill the stands and the berm.

Want to explore Okotoks before you buy, or just need a getaway? Our campgrounds are very popular. Stay at Riverbend Campground, or at the Okotoks Lions Campground right along the Sheep River, where even the locals wade in and play on a hot summer day.

Schools

Matching homes to school catchments.

Okotoks is served by Foothills School Division, Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools, francophone FrancoSud and several independent schools. A new public high school is also planned for north Okotoks. Catchment boundaries change as the town grows, so TJ always helps families confirm the school for a specific address before they buy.
